Bomb Making Material, Arms Recovered From Confessed Terrorist In Kaduna

Kaduna State Police Command early today recovered bomb making materials and arms from a confessed terrorist.
The development comes barely 24 hours after alert youths in the Rigasa suburb of Kaduna captured two suspected terrorists and recovered arms and ammunition from them.
Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, M.J. Abubakar, spoke to the press today about the developments. “In our continued clampdown on criminal elements in the state, on 16/07/2012 at about 0200 hrs, a confessed terrorist led a team of detectives from our anti-robbery squad to Rafin-Guza area, where a hideout was raided,” said Mr. Abubakar. How Brave Youths Captured Boko Haram Members In Kaduna

The killing of a 20-year-old innocent boy was all the youths needed to get mad and confront three gun-totting Boko Haram members who invaded Mahuta, a suburb of Kaduna metropolis on Sunday.
The brave youths overpowered and arrested two of the terrorists, aged 17 and 22, who had gone to the compound of the District Head of Afaka, Alhaji Abdulwahab, in a bid to kill him.
The Boko Haram members were bearing an AK-47 rifle at the time they invaded two neighbouring Rigasa and Mahuta communities on a motorcycle at 9a.m.
According to an eyewitness, “The gunmen came and said they were looking for the ‘Hakimin Mahuta’ (District Head of Mahuta), disguising as members of his subjects. So, when they allowed them into the house, the ‘Hakimin’ was not comfortable with them, so he ran back inside.

Sahara Reporters has just learned that around 2 pm in Maiduguri, a suicide bomber attacker has hit the palace of the Shehu of Borno State Alhaji Umar Garbai Abba Kyari. It is unclear at this time if there are any fatalities.A palace source told SaharaReporters that the explosion occured as the Shehu was being escorted to the palace after Friday prayers.

TANKER EXPLOSION KILLS 95 PERSONS IN RIVERS

Lagos (AFP) – At least 95 people who went to scoop up oil from an overturned oil tanker were killed after the vehicle caught fire, a road safety official in southern Nigeria’s Rivers state told AFP.

“Ninety-three were burned to death on the spot. Two died later in the hospital (and) 18 people were seriously injured,” said Kayode Olagunju, sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission in the state.

As tension mounts in Plateau State following two incidents of heavy militant killings this weekend, security agents say they have discovered 50 corpses in the burnt home of a pastor in Matse village of Riyom local government area.
The bodies, some of them burnt beyond recognition, were discovered in the home of a pastor of the Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN), and family sources said they belonged to people who ran into the pastor's home for safety as Fulani gunmen surrounded and attacked the area on Saturday morning.
Some 20 persons were killed in nine villages in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state on Saturday.
And today, during a mass burial for those victims, gunmen in military uniform attacked mourners, killing many people, including a Senator, a member of the House of Representatives, and Plateau State assemblyman.
The government has imposed a dusk to dawn curfew on the state, while soldiers have been drafted in to ensure order.

24hrs Curfew Imposed On Plateau State

Following the series of coordinated killings in parts of Plateau State in two consecutive days, leading to the death of a Senator, House of Assembly member and several other innocent Nigerians, Abokigossip gathered that Governor Jona Jang has imposed a curfew.

The curfew cuts across four local government areas in the state, believed to be flashpoints.

They are namely Jos South, Barkin Ladi, Jos North and Riyom. Sources told Abokigossip that intelligence information had indicated that some group of youths in the affected areas were already mobilizing for a reprisal attack that could throw the state into religious war, hence the action.

Droves of military and police personnel are said to be trooping into Plateau State to maintain peace.

Gunmen Kill Senator, Plateau State Assembly Leader, Injure House Of Reps Member

SaharaReporters has just learnt that Senator Dantong Gyang Dalyop and Gyang Fulani, the majority leader of the Plateau State Assembly, were among several people murdered today during a mass funeral in the Barakin-Ladi local government area of Plateau. A member of the House of Representatives, Simon Davou Mwadkwon, was also seriously injured in the attack.
Senator Dantong Gyang Dalyop was a PDP member and chaired the Senate committee on health.
Nigerian senate spokesperson Senator Ayinnaya Abaribe confirmed the tragic event to SaharaReporters. Our sources disclosed that the murdered officials were attacked as they attended a mass funeral for more than twenty men, women and children killed in the area in a gruesome attack launched by yet unidentified gunmen yesterday.
The funeral was just concluded when heavily armed men in military uniforms descended on the mourners, shooting at the senator and other officials at point blank range.
“It was a horrible sight,” said a source who witnessed the tragedy. “People ran helter-skelter as the gunmen continued to shoot,” he added.
For the past several years, Plateau State has been mired in sectarian bloodshed between armed groups of Muslims and Christians.

Nigerian Airforce L-39 training aircraft

A Nigerian air force training aircraft crash-landed today at the Benin airport. The aircraft with registration number 5N-DKS at 10:00 AM Nigerian time crashed on its belly after the landing gear failed to deploy overshooting the runway at the Benin Airport in Edo State, Nigeria.

Airport officials told Saharareporters there are no casualties or injuries. The airport is currently closed to allow officials remove the crashed plane from the runway.

In October 2011 a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) L-39 training aircraft from 303 Flying Training School at Kano also crashed at the Uyo airport in Akwa Ibom State during a training exercise.
